Abandoned Illinois Funeral Home With a Cabinet Full Of Ducks

If you've always thought funeral homes are creepy, wait until you get a load of this abandoned one in Illinois with a whole cabinet full of strange.

I think it's safe to say that a lot of people in this World are fascinated by old, abandoned places. The most daring souls like to explore these buildings in person, while others like myself enjoy living vicariously through the pictures other people take.

The thing I love most about abandoned buildings is seeing all the super strange stuff people leave behind. I like to imagine what the place was like in its prime and what the people who lived or worked there must have been like, but most of all, I wonder what happened that forced people to bolt and run leaving what appears to be everything behind.

For all those reasons, and a few more, I love following Decayingmidwest on Facebook. The people who run the page do an excellent job capturing photos of what makes the abandoned places they highlight so strange, creepy, and unique. Just like this abandoned funeral home near Chicago, Illinois...

One thing I've learned thanks to Decayingmidwest is; there's lot of creepy abandoned funeral homes in the Midwest...especially in Illinois.

Decayingmidwest recently highlighted an abandoned funeral home near Chicago, and a couple things grabbed my attention very quickly...

1. This disturbing formaldehyde sign.

2. The disgusting fluid left in this drain. (it's just rusty old water, right?!?)

3. The numerous beauty products needed for the deceased.

4. All these duck decoys in a cabinet?

Why in the world would a funeral home need so many duck decoys? Were they decorations for a hunter's funeral? Are they casket accessories?

The answer, I believe, was provided in the comment section;

They're urns people.

Urns?

I will never look at a duck decoration or decoy the same way again.
