STEVENS - Owen G., 98, Davidsville, died peacefully June 5,2023 at Laurel View Village. Born December 4, 1924 in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, son of the late Jacob J. and Cora R. (Imler) Stevens. Preceded in death by his wife and high school sweetheart Marian A. (Keim) Stevens whom he married on March 1, 1946 and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage until her death in 2016. Also preceded in death by brothers, Blair, Harry, Ray, Joseph and Jay and sisters, Florence Miller and Thelma Hostetler. Owen was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by children, Terry, married to former Dianna Blough, Raleigh NC.; Jean, married to Judge Daniel Rullo, Somerset and Lee, married to former Betty Lou Lazer, Mount Joy, PA; grandchildren, Erin (Craig) Eagleson, Boswell; Rebecca (John) Shakoske, Irwin; Allison (Rocco) Schillaci, West Wyoming PA; Brooke (Craig) Smith, Sneads Ferry NC; Amy Stevens, Raleigh NC; Adam (Abby) Rullo, Somerset; and Meleah (Garrett) Dykstra, Lockport NY; 20 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Ruth Stevens, Verna Stevens, Cathy Stevens and Shirley Keim and numerous nieces and nephews. Owen was a 1943 graduate of Conemaugh Township High School. In his youth, he worked as a paperboy for the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific Theatre from 1944 to 1945. He was a graduate of the International Correspondence School of Carpentry. He worked for Joe Miller & Son, Jake Saylor & Son, and US Steel for 18 years. He also worked for Boyer Brothers and Robert Sala. He was an excellent carpenter and happily did many projects for his children and other relatives. Owen built the house on Moonlite Park Road where he and Marian raised their children and lived for 49 years. He liked to do gardening there with his wife, and they shared their surplus and canned products with family and friends. They moved to Laurel View Village in 2008. He was a lifelong member of Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, and the Willing Worker Sunday School Class. Over the years he had volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Lions Club, and St. Francis Caring & Sharing. He was an avid and successful deer and turkey hunter well into his 80's. He and Marian loved traveling and went on a number of trips with family to the western national parks, to California and to Nags Head and Oak Island, NC. They also visited Florida, New England and Nova Scotia over the years. He dearly loved his family and was dearly loved by them. Viewing from 2-4 & 6-8PM Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville. Viewing also from 1PM until time of service 2PM Friday at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren with Pastor Wes Yoder presiding. Interment Maple Spring Cemetery with military honors by Somerset County Honor Guard. When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
